Why do I love this space?
I was looking for a gym that was member focused, had a great space to lift weights for strength and a variety of cardio equipment for conditioning, all of which you can transfer to everyday life - pretty much what I train for and teach my clients.
And here was Miki D's gym, tucked off the main road and backed onto the waterfront trail, with the use of the alley way for tire flips and an outdoor workout PLUS an INDOOR PLAYGROUND!! (Any obstacle course racers dream!). Perfect!
As I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly and welcoming owner - how great is that when you’re in a new environment?! The whole team is so easy to talk to and really get what you’re wanting and make you feel welcome. Everyone’s down to earth, happy to help and loves a good laugh.
What I love is the perfect selection of barbells, free weights, variety of cardio conditioning machines and the must have machine weights that I like to use for continual progression, postural work and specific controlled movements. And of course the playground! (Maybe Miki might be open to getting a climbing rope for obstacle races in future :D).
As I've settled in Nelson, I'm focusing on introducing my clients to Miki D's Gym and building up a fun and encouraging environment to train. This is a space where I can be myself, enjoy going to my workplace to teach & train and surround myself with like minded people.

Jess is the ultimate personal trainer. She has a knack of knowing exactly how much you can handle and is great at pushing you on to get you there. Her attention to technique and her holistic approach ensures you get the full benefit out of each session. She genuinely cares about helping you achieve your goals and goes the extra mile to check-in on how you're feeling after your workout and to hold you to account. Her experience gained from working closely with physiotherapists and nutritionists means she can target problem areas and give you additional tools to help you on your journey.
